What are the advantages of participating in an apprenticeship?

Apprentices earn a full-time salary with benefits while learning the skills to work in a laboratory animal facility.

What type of students will benefit from the apprenticeship program?
A.
Apprentices might be students who have recently completed high school or a GED, transitioning military and dependents, displaced workers, workers changing careers, or workers reentering the research field.
Q.
Who provides supervision of apprentices?
A.
Scott and White supervisory personnel will serve as mentors/supervisors.
Q.
Who provides the instruction for the classes?
A.
The 146 hours of related instruction are provided through Temple College and Scott and White. The 2000 hours of on-the-job training are provided by Scott and White personnel.
Q.
Who provides oversight of the apprenticeship program?
A.
The Scott and White Apprenticeship Advisory Committee will provide oversight, set admission criteria and qualifications, determine competencies, and evaluate learning outcomes.
Q.
What type of certification will the apprentice have at the end of the program?
A.
At the completion of the program, the apprentice will receive a certificate of completion of a Registered Apprenticeship and will be eligible to take the certification exam from the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
