Apprenticeship

The Department of Labor's Registered Apprenticeship Program is a highly flexible training model that combines on-the-job-training, mentoring and related classroom instruction to develop a workforce in areas where serious labor and skill shortages exist. In an apprenticeship program, paid employees receive technical and practical training, and employers have a model to establish the standards of proficiency required of its professionals.

The time requirements and substance of the program depend upon the occupation. Apprentices work and learn under the direction of qualified employers/mentors who are experienced in their professional field. Over time, apprentices are provided diverse and complex training that helps them become highly skilled in their chosen careers.

Registered Apprenticeship is another program chosen by the Texas Bioscience Institute to address the workforce needs of a rapidly growing research community.
